This is an invitation to Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, trans, non-binary and other people with fabulous diverse sexual and gender identities (2SLGBTQQIA+) across Canada who have an interest in the health of our communities and the impacts of COVID-19.
Community-Based Research Centre (CBRC) is seeking community members to provide input on analysis and community reports from a national study on the health of 2SLGBTQQIA+ people, including unintended impacts and prevalence of COVID-19. Our findings will inform future public health action to improve the health, well-being, and safety of 2SLGBTQQIA+ people. This includes mental and physical health, and experiences of discrimination and violence.
We are looking for approximately 30 members to work across 10 sub-community committees who can work in English or French. We are looking for folks with direct lived experience as related to the 10 sub-community reports, focused on the following groups:
- African, Caribbean or Black people
- People of Colour
- Indigenous and Two-Spirit people
- Trans and non-binary people
- People with disabilities
- Youths
- Older adults
- Those who live rurally
- Refugees and newcomers
- People who use substances
Members are welcome to sign up for more than one committee as related to their lived experience. We believe that no research about these communities should be developed without the communities in question being involved every step of the way: “Nothing about us, without us.”
Committee members will provide input on data analysis priorities and insight into writing reports from the Our Health study data. Our team will conduct the data analyses and prepare the statistical results. Advisors will also provide input on the creation of a data dashboard for the project. Committee members will provide suggestions on content, language, tone, and inclusivity. We do not expect community members to have any prior research experience or training!
Committee members will work closely with the research team at CBRC. All meetings and work will take place virtually by email, phone, or Zoom.
Compensation: Each member will receive $30/hour compensation for their time contributed to the project.
Time commitment: We expect committee members to contribute approximately 5-10 hours during the first 3 months. Initial commitment will be for 3 months with the possibility of extension.
Please submit your statement of interest (up to 1 page single-spaced) to Ben Klassen ([email protected]). We will begin reviewing applications immediately and will hold follow-up conversations with interested individuals shortly afterwards. Please share this call within your networks.
