Our Health 2023: On the Road!

This summer, CBRC’s Our Health study will be on the road! We will be at community-based events (including Pride festivals) to connect with 2S/LGBTQQIA+ community members and collect data as part of our Canada-wide community health study. We want you to add your voice to help us support the health of 2S/LGBTQQIA+ people by improving programs, services, and policies.

We know that as 2S/LGBTQQIA+ people, we experience a significant number of unique and complex barriers to accessing mental, physical, sexual, spiritual, and cultural health services. For those of us navigating intersecting oppressions, this can be especially challenging. Conducting an in-person, Canada-wide national community health survey will allow us to learn about our communities’ experiences and their needs — this will help us collectively make important recommendations to decision makers on what we need!

Community-Based Research Centre, Egale Canada, The Enchanté Network, and 2 Spirits in Motion Society are collaborating on this groundbreaking national project that will look into the current state of health among people in our communities. We want to understand what life is like for 2S/LGBTQQIA+ people across Canada. How’s your mental and physical health? Your spiritual wellness? Your romantic or sex life (if applicable)? How are you managing your chronic health condition? All participants will receive $10 cash for completing the survey.

We especially want to hear from community members who are living with chronic health conditions. We are using an expansive understanding of chronic health, to ensure that people living with conditions that are under-represented or less understood can feel included in this work. Living with chronic pain? A cancer survivor? Have a mental health condition? We want to hear from you.

The Principal Investigator for this project is Nathan Lachowsky at the University of Victoria. For more information on this research project, you can contact our team via:
