CBRC’s national health survey for gay, bi, trans, Two-Spirit, and queer men (GBT2Q) and non-binary people has launched. We want to know about your life nowadays. What matters to you? Tell us about how you have sex, and if that’s changed much during COVID-19. Your answers will assist organizations across the country advocate for better programs and resources, and will be used to shape public policy when it comes to our health and wellbeing.
New this year: Participants (18 years and older) have the option to take part in our Test@Home program and receive free HIV self-test kits for yourself and/or your friends and partners.
WHO IS THE SURVEY FOR?
Sex Now is Canada’s national survey for all GBT2Q men and non-binary people. Women are ineligible for the survey. We are looking for participants from all ethno-racial backgrounds, immigration statuses, abilities, HIV statuses, body types and locations across Canada. This year’s survey also includes a number of questions on substance use and harm reduction when it comes to our social life, mental wellness, and sex life.
The survey is available to be taken in English, French, Spanish, Punjabi, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.
WHAT IS INVOLVED
You will be asked a series of questions that normally take about 30 minutes to answer. Your responses can be completely anonymous. Participants will have the option to take part in Test@Home, to receive newly approved HIV self-test kits for yourself and/or others.
NEW YEAR, NEW TEST
The pandemic has introduced new barriers to regular HIV testing. This is why CBRC, in partnership with REACH Nexus, has launched Test@Home. Participants who are 18 years and older will be able to opt-into receiving HIV self-test kits by mail while completing the Sex Now survey. Everyone who is eligible can ask for up to three HIV self-test kits to use themselves or to share with friends or people in their sexual or social networks.
Test@Home provides access to a new rapid HIV self-test, which is similar to the “point of care” test and provides HIV results within minutes. The goal is to empower all GBT2Q men and non-binary people to take control of their own health and learn more about the new testing options available. It will also help us determine how to make this new technology an effective strategy for helping those who often face barriers to testing.
