Care in Action: HPV Awareness & Prevention is an Indigenous-led resource for service providers. The human-papilloma virus (HPV) can be very tricky to talk about. Although it is one of the most prominent sexually-transmitted infections, a lot of people still do not have the knowledge or awareness to implement choices that may improve their sexual health in the long-term. Informed by lived experiences, this module offers an introductory understanding of HPV, as well as guidance on accessing the HPV vaccine and screening for HPV-related cancers.
As service providers, we have a responsibility to reduce harms, barriers, and provide solutions to those accessing our resources. Having a strong sense of who we are serving within the community allows us to introduce knowledge around prevention into our work and provide tools for self-advocacy. Attention is given to recommendations and strategies within the province of Manitoba that can improve understanding of HPV in communities across the country.
