Making it Easier and Safer to Medically Transition in Canada

Medically transitioning can profoundly improve quality of life and save lives for Two-Spirit, trans, gender-diverse, and non-binary (TTNB) people. However, TTNB people in Canada experience significant challenges when it comes to transition-related health care. These include out of pocket costs, wait times, access to practitioners, and most profoundly, a lack of consistent coverage for medically necessary treatments by provincial and territorial governments. Governments must work together to eliminate these barriers and create a health care system that supports TTNB people throughout their transition.

This policy brief lays out recommendations for action.
