Since 2021, the Two-Spirit team at CBRC has been advocating for the creation and recognition of an annual Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day, to be held each March in alignment with spring equinox.

The goal of the recurring awareness day will be the centring and celebration of the radiance and diversity of Two-Spirit identities, expression, and experience across Turtle Island. Indigenous-led organizations across so-called Canada are invited to join us in the proclamation of spring equinox as Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day by hosting local events, demonstrations, and celebrations in solidarity with satellite events happening across the country.

To help get the word out, we have created promotional resources for you to use to share your own events and initiatives, which you can access and download below.

If you will host your own event, or have any questions, please email [email protected] or [email protected].

Sample Email / Newsletter Summary

For the fourth consecutive year, members of the Two-Spirit community are calling upon our relations, government officials, policy makers, hereditary leaders and allies across Turtle Island to declare the spring equinox—which takes place this year on Thursday, March 20—as Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day in Canada.

Advocated for by members of the Two-Spirit community in 2021, this day is an annual celebration of the vibrant diversity and strength of Two-Spirit identities, expressions, and experiences. Held in conjunction with the spring equinox each year, the celebration is a space for all Two-Spirit and Indigenous queer and trans people—as well as our allies, families, and friends—to come together in solidarity and joy.

We invite and encourage Two-Spirit organizations, leaders, scholars, advocates, Elders, and community members across Turtle Island to join in the declaration by hosting local events, demonstrations, and celebrations in solidarity with the national observance on March 20, 2025. Our long-term goal is to see this day recognized in more cities, provinces, and eventually on a national scale.

Community members and organizations planning their own events are encouraged to share them with the Two-Spirit Program team at CBRC so we can help spread the word. To connect, please email [email protected]  or [email protected].

Messaging for Our Allies

This year we are asking our allies to help celebrate and declare Thursday, March 20, 2025—the spring equinox—as Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day in Canada. Allies can support Two-Spirit people by showing respect, listening to our voices, and advocating for our rights. This includes learning about Two-Spirit history, culture, and the unique challenges faced by Two-Spirit individuals. Allies can also uplift Two-Spirit voices by co-creating spaces where we feel safe, seen, and celebrated. Above all, allies should commit to ongoing learning and support, ensuring that Two-Spirit people are not just acknowledged on this day but celebrated and respected every day.

Help us get the word out, and celebrate with us.
