Since 2021, the Two-Spirit team at CBRC has been advocating for the creation and recognition of an annual Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day, to be held each March in alignment with spring equinox.

The goal of the recurring awareness day will be the centring and celebration of the radiance and diversity of Two-Spirit identities, expression, and experience across Turtle Island. Indigenous-led organizations across so-called Canada are invited to join us in the proclamation of spring equinox as Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day by hosting local events, demonstrations, and celebrations in solidarity with satellite events happening across the country.

To help get the word out, we have created promotional resources for you to use to share your own events and initiatives, which you can access and download below.

If you will host your own event, or have any questions, please email [email protected] or [email protected].

This year, March 19th is Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day across Turtle Island! Following advocacy from members of the Two-Spirit community, the City of Vancouver (2022) and the province of BC (2023) recognized an official Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ Celebration to Awareness Day aligned with the spring equinox. The intention of this day is to celebrate the radiance and diversity of Two-Spirit identities, expression and experience across Turtle Island through celebrations, gatherings, and demonstrations.

We are inviting and encouraging Two-Spirit organizations, leaders, scholars, advocates, activists, Elders, and community members across Turtle Island to join us in the proclamation of the spring equinox as Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day and host local events, demonstrations, and celebrations in solidarity with events on March 19, 2024. The long-term goal is to have this day recognized in many other cities and provinces and hopefully on a national level in the coming years.

Community members and organizations who host their own events are encouraged to share them with the Two-Spirit team at CBRC to spread the word. To get in touch,
