Coping with Minority Stress - Data Sheet

Data Highlights from Our Health 2022

Cisheteronormativity, colonialism, and racism—among other hierarchical power structures—create and maintain health inequities for Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (2S/LGBTQ+) communities. The minority stress model helps explain these inequities, and describes how oppression wears down the mental health of 2S/ LGBTQ+ people, who can adopt different coping mechanisms in response. The COVID-19 pandemic also exacerbated challenges faced by 2S/LGBTQ+ communities. This data highlight sheet showcases data from the Our Health 2022 survey related to coping and resilience for 2S/LGBTQ+ people since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
