Sex Now: Canada’s largest survey of gay and bisexual men

Featuring: Olivier Ferlatte, Research Education Director Community-Based Research Centre for Gay Men’s Health

The Sex Now survey is Canada’s largest survey of gay and bisexual men. With a wealth of information provided by thousands of men across the country, service providers and program developers use the survey results to inform their work and to respond to the needs of the community.

According to results from the Sex Now 2011 survey conducted by the Community-Based Research Centre:

  • Younger gay and bi men reported testing for STIs more commonly than older men, although they were more likely to have never tested for HIV
  • Men living in rural areas were less likely to report being out to their primary healthcare provider than urban men
  • About 20% to 30% of gay and bi men reported having condomless anal intercourse in the past 12 months with a partner of an unknown or opposite HIV status
