Community Report: Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day

In 2024, members of our community once again called upon our relations, government officials, policy makers, hereditary leaders, and allies across Turtle Island to proclaim and celebrate the spring equinox as Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day in Canada.

The third annual celebration took place on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, with proclamations and activities held in a record number of cities and communities. The overarching objective of the day is to raise community awareness and education of Two-Spirit people through public demonstrations, proclamations, and community celebrations. Our goal is to have this day recognized in many other cities and provinces, and hopefully on a national level, in the coming years.

This document contains a summary of what happened this year. If you would like to get involved in the 2025 Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day, please write to Martin Morberg ([email protected]) or Jaylene McRae ([email protected]).
