Smoke Break is a free, virtual, peer-led program run by CBRC that helps 2S/LGBTQIA+ people across Canada quit or reduce smoking through a harm reduction approach.
As 2S/LGBTQIA+ communities often face barriers to accessing culturally safe and informed support to quit or reduce smoking, programs by and for us are rare, making it hard to find trustworthy help. Smoke Break aims to change that. Funded by Health Canada, the national initiative aims to provide 2S/LGBTQIA+ people with the knowledge, skills, tools, and supports needed to stop or reduce smoking.
First piloted in July 2025 with full-scale implementation following in October 2025, Smoke Break is set to run for a three-year period. It offers free, trauma-informed virtual support to 2S/LGBTQIA+ community members across Canada, 18 and up. Services include one-on-one peer support sessions, group support, and nicotine replacement therapy, Fum products, and care items delivered right to your doorstep. Services are offered by Smoke Break peer support workers, all of whom are 2S/LGBTQIA+ with experience smoking tobacco themselves. Services are available in English and French.
