An affirming guide to fertility and family building in Canada

Building a family is not one-size-fits-all—and for 2S/LGBTQIA+ people, the process often comes with unique joys and challenges. This guide is designed to help you reflect on your goals, understand your options, navigate barriers and connect with supportive providers, communities, and resources. Whether you’re just beginning to imagine parenthood or already exploring specific pathways, this resource offers practical tools, affirming guidance, and questions to help you move from “I’ve thought about having a family…” to “Here’s how I’m getting there.”

This resource is part of the WAGE: We Lead project, which aims to empower 2S/LGBTQIA+ community members to navigate local health systems, and enhance providers’ ability to offer culturally competent and affirming sexual and reproductive healthcare. Through a collaborative approach, CBRC has partnered with Chroma in New Brunswick, QTHC in Edmonton, and Les 3 sex* in Montreal to develop and deliver sexual, reproductive, and gender-affirming healthcare (SRGA) resources.

This project has been funded through Women and Gender Equality Canada's Women's Program.
