Position Type: Part-time contract (8-12 hours/week – please indicate preferred hours per week in your cover letter) until March 31, 2022, with the possibility of extension.
Yearly Wage: $50,000, prorated based on the number of weekly hours agreed upon (approximately $10,600 - $16,000). This position is not eligible for extended benefits due to its part-time status.

Community-Based Research Centre (CBRC) promotes the health of gay, bi, trans, Two-Spirit, and queer men (GBT2Q) through research and intervention development. CBRC’s core pillars – community-led research, knowledge exchange, network building, and leadership development – position the organization as a thought leader, transforming ideas into actions that make a difference in our communities. CBRC was incorporated in 1999 and is a non-profit charitable organization. Our main office is located in Vancouver, British Columbia; we also have satellite offices located in Edmonton, Toronto, and Halifax.
Description
CBRC is seeking a passionate and organized BC Investigaytors Program Coordinator to facilitate the British Columbia provincial iteration of this peer program. Investigaytors is a community health leadership program that equips young queer, trans, and Two-Spirit people with the social connections, health knowledge, and community-based research skills they need to be health leaders in their communities. The primary objective of the Investigaytors program is capacity-building through hands-on research experience grounded in the principles of community-based research.
Program participants learn about quantitative and qualitative research skills, social determinants of health, HIV prevention and sexual health, and the utility of research in addressing health inequities and knowledge gaps. Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we anticipate that this new cohort of the program will be conducted online. As such, the successful candidate will be required to coordinate virtually with participants across the province.
Education
At CBRC, we recognize the value of a variety of educational experiences, including but not limited to academic, career-based, and personal learnings. No one’s application will be ignored due to having not met a formal educational threshold. However, an undergraduate degree/diploma in one of the following areas would be an asset:
- Health Sciences
- Statistics
- Education
- Social Sciences (such as sociology or geography)
Job Responsibilities
- Plan, promote, set-up, and facilitate weekly Investigaytors program sessions for young queer, trans, and Two-Spirit people in BC;
- Deliver the Investigators program using a curriculum plan, and adapt the curriculum as needed;
- Plan and lead research-based activities for participants;
- Support in the recruitment of BC Investigaytors participants; and
- Connect with community leaders, partners, and researchers to identify ways to support the Investigaytors program and its participants.
Other Qualifications and Skills
- Experienced in quantitative research or data (e.g., surveys, statistics);
- Quantitative software skills (e.g., RStudio) and strong technical skills (e.g., experience with databases) are considered an asset;
- Skilled at facilitating group discussions and helping the group move forward consistently in their research efforts;
- Awareness of 2SLGBTQQIA+ cultural and political values and sensitivities; knowledge of and passion for GBT2Q health and community-based research is considered an asset;
- Demonstrated experience working with GBT2Q communities; experience working with Indigenous Two-Spirit people and QTBIPOC (queer, trans, Black, Indigenous, people of colour) is considered an asset;
- Experienced in developing and delivering training or educational materials;
- Excellent communication and organizational skills;
- Identifies as, and is a peer to, LGBT2Q+ youth;
- Experience working or volunteering with community organizations is considered an asset;
- Experience conducting evaluation activities is considered an asset; and
- Bilingualism (English & French) is desirable, although any second language skills are considered an asset.
