We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Community Based Research (CBR) Training Manager to lead CBRC’s Canada-wide coordination and support for community-based research curriculum development and training programs for diverse 2S/LGBTQ+ community members. The primary responsibility is supporting the long-standing Investigaytors training program, with related programs offered in several sites across Canada, and leveraging data from CBRC’s Our Health research study with all 2S/LGBTQ+ people to mobilize knowledge about COVID-19 impacts on our communities. This position will be a core member of the CBRC research management team, supervising and working closely with other staff at CBRC, our affiliate university-based researchers, and our community partner organizations across Canada.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Approximate percentages of time spent on each activity (averaged over 1 month) are provided as an estimate only, but this may vary or develop over time.
- Oversee and manage a collaborative workplan that supports implementation of a series of community-based research training and knowledge mobilization interventions to address key knowledge and capacity gaps related to COVID-19 mental health impacts on 2S/LGBTQ+ communities (35%)
- Create, adapt and enhance training curriculum and program delivery guides for a community-based research Investigaytors program for 2S/LGBTQ+ people (25%)
- Supervise, train, and mentor staff (i.e., Community Program Coordinator, Research Coordinator) and contractors to support implementation of community-based research training programs and knowledge mobilization interventions (20%)
- Collaborate with CBRC staff and external partners, and participate in team meetings and training program events (20%)
- 2-3 years project managing or coordinating community-based programs, services, or interventions with 2S/LGBTQ+ or other marginalized communities
- 2-3 years of experience applying values of equity, social justice, decolonization, Indigenization, anti-oppression and/or community-based research in educational, community, or knowledge mobilization settings
- 1-2 years of experience creating, adapting, or implementing curriculum for community-based research training (e.g. participatory action research, Indigenous research methodologies)
- 1-2 years of experience with or capacity for staff supervision, training and mentorship
- Master’s degree in education, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Public Health, Sociology, Gender Studies, Women Studies, or a related field. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Advanced knowledge of relevant theories and frameworks in community-based research and population health equity work (e.g., intersectionality, minority stress theory, social ecology, syndemics, social determinants of health)
- Deep understanding of diverse 2S/LGBTQ+ community health issues and perspectives, including by way of lived experience
Other Competencies & Qualifications (assets)
- Knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies and experience working with Indigenous Two-Spirit communities
- Expertise in mental health, especially among 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities
- Awareness of 2S/LGBTQ+ social, cultural, and political values and sensitivities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Capacity to prioritize tasks and function under tight and/or competing deadlines
- Autonomous worker with an ability to adapt and work within a dynamic and complex team setting
- Ability to interact professionally and effectively with partners from varying sectors including academic and community agencies
- Effective critical analysis and problem-solving skills
- French language capacity is considered an asset
