Description

We are seeking a passionate Community Program Coordinator to support CBRC’s Canada-wide coordination of community-based research and leadership training programs for diverse 2S/LGBTQ+ community members. This position will support the adaptation and delivery of Investigaytors (and related) community-based research and leadership training programs in several sites across Canada. This position will also support the development and dissemination of effective community health knowledge products and/or interventions related to the mental health impacts of COVID-19 on 2S/LGBTQ+ people. This position will be a core member of the CBRC research team, working closely with other staff at CBRC, our affiliate university-based researchers, and our community partner organizations across Canada.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Approximate percentages of time spent on each activity (averaged over 1 month) are provided as an estimate only, but this may vary or develop over time.

  • Support the program delivery of Investigaytors community-based research and leadership training program at each local program site (30%)
  • Consult key stakeholders to develop national Investigaytors community-based research and leadership training program materials, and then support adaptation of these materials for each local program site (25%)
  • Support the development, adaptation and scaling of effective community health knowledge products and/or interventions related to 2S/LGBTQ+ mental health for each local program site (25%)
  • Collaborate with CBRC staff and external partners, and participate in team meetings and training program events (10%)
  • Support the recruitment and involvement of 2S/LGBTQ+ community advisory teams at each local program site (10%)

Minimum Requirements

  • 1-2 years coordinating community-based programs, services, or interventions with 2S/LGBTQ+ or other marginalized communities
  • 1 years of experience applying values of equity, social justice, decolonization, Indigenization, anti-oppression and/or community-based research in educational, community, or knowledge mobilization settings
  • An undergraduate degree in Education, Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Public Health, Sociology, Gender Studies, Women Studies, or a related field. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Introductory knowledge of relevant theories and frameworks in community-based research and population health equity work (e.g., intersectionality, minority stress theory, social ecology, syndemics, social determinants of health)
  • Understanding of diverse 2S/LGBTQ+ community health issues and perspectives, including by way of lived experience

Other Competencies & Qualifications (assets)

  • Knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies and experience working with Indigenous Two-Spirit community
  • Knowledge of mental health issues among 2S/LGBTQ+ communities
  • Awareness of 2S/LGBTQ+ social, cultural, and political values and sensitivities
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Capacity to prioritize tasks and function under tight and/or competing deadlines
  • Autonomous worker with an ability to adapt and work within a dynamic and complex team setting
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with partners from varying sectors including academic and community agencies
  • Effective critical analysis and problem-solving skills
  • French language capacity is considered an asset
