We are the ultimate experts on our bodies, lives, and needs. This is the message echoed by social workers, practitioners, community organizers and activists, in the CBRC’s new collection of videos on sexual and reproductive health.
“When I think of affirming care, I think of care that allows me to show up as myself. When I go to the doctor I don’t have to pretend I am cishet to get the care I need. I don’t have to doubly advocate for myself when it comes to testing, I don’t have to push excessively to say ‘OK, these are things you’re missing that are niche for Queer folks that you’re not even trying to address….’”
Nicole
These community leaders touched on the need to centre pleasure in sexual health, and for community members and providers alike to identify and challenge their own biases around ability, bodies, race, and gender.
