Conversion Practices PLEI Project

The Community-Based Research Centre (CBRC) is conducting a Public Legal Education and Information (PLEI) needs assessment which includes surveys and facilitated focus groups with 2SLGBTQ+ community members and affirming organizations in Canada.

The purpose of the project is to understand and respond to information and education needs related to conversion practices and the federal conversion “therapy” ban. Findings gathered will be used to create resources tailored to key audiences that address primary knowledge gaps, to help end these harmful efforts to change, suppress, or deny one’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

A wide variety of affirming organizations in Canada are invited to participate. These include: 2SLGBTQ+ community organizations and service providers, faith-based and/or ethno-religious organizations and networks, healthcare and social service providers, and/or immigrant, refugee, and newcomer-serving organizations and service providers.

In addition, all 2SLGBTQ+ people living in Canada above the age of 15, whether or not they have experienced conversion practices, are invited to participate.

An honorarium of $75 will be provided to all focus group participants. A draw to win 1 of 10 prizes of $100 will be offered to all 2SLGBTQ+ survey participants.
