Description
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, access to traditional in-person clinical sexual and reproductive health care shifted dramatically. Many 2S/LGBTQ+ people had less access to services such as STBBI testing, fertility clinics, and abortion services, as well as being impacted by the delay or cancellation of some surgeries including gender-affirming surgeries. Issues of access were exacerbated, while new options such as virtual care were introduced – options that are emerging modalities that may be here to stay.
With an overall goal of seeking to identify 2S/LGBTQ+ community needs, preferences, and acceptability of sexual and reproductive health care outside of traditional clinical setting, CBRC is hiring a Research Coordinator to support this new project.
We are seeking a passionate and organized Research Coordinator who will be responsible for coordinating and supporting research activities, including literature reviews, community consultations, ethics submissions, and qualitative studies (development, implementation, data collection, and analysis). This position will also support the development of creative knowledge translation activities, including sharing study results with community and health care audiences. This position will be a core member of the CBRC research team, working closely with other staff at CBRC, our affiliate university-based researchers, and our community partners organizations across Canada.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Approximate percentages of time spent on each activity (averaged over 1 month) are provided as an estimate only, but this may vary or develop over time.
- Collaborating with CBRC research staff and community partners to implement various research activities, including developing ethics protocols and recruitment materials, data collection and analyses, as well as knowledge mobilization (65%)
- Supporting the recruitment and involvement of peer researchers and community advisors (15%)
- Coordinating project team meetings (e.g., scheduling and note taking) (10%)
- Collaborating with CBRC staff and external partners, and participating in team meetings (10%)
Minimum Requirements
- 2-3 years of experience applying values of equity, social justice, decolonization, anti-oppression and/or community-based research in community consultation, research, or knowledge mobilization settings
- 1-2 years of experience assisting or coordinating qualitative research activities
- 1-2 years of experience participating in or coordinating cross-organization networks or projects
- Advanced knowledge of sexual and reproductive health issues pertaining to 2S/LGBTQ+ communities
- Advanced knowledge of relevant theories and frameworks in community-based research and population health equity work (e.g., intersectionality, minority stress theory, syndemics, social determinants of health)
- Understanding of diverse 2S/LGBTQ+ community health issues and perspectives, including by way of lived experience
Other Competencies & Qualifications (assets)
- Knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies and experiences working with Indigenous Two-Spirit community
- Knowledge of health care systems in Canada, especially in relation to 2S/LGBTQ+ communities, health promotion and research
- Awareness of 2S/LGBTQ+ social, cultural, and political values and sensitivities
- Excellent communication skills including writing
- Capacity to prioritize tasks and function under tight and/or competing deadlines
- Autonomous worker with an ability to adapt and work within a dynamic and complex team setting
- Ability to interact professionally and effectively with partners from varying sectors including academic and community agencies
- Effective critical analysis and problem-solving skills
- French language capacity is considered an asset
