CBRC

Boilerplate

Developed by CBRC with recruitment from coast to coast in several languages (English, French, and Spanish), Sex Now has been collecting and sharing valuable data on the physical and mental health of the country’s 2S/GBTQ people for more than twenty years. Sex Now data is made publicly available through Our Stats, an online visualization dashboard that community organizations and policy makers across the country can use to advocate for better programs and resources to help improve health outcomes for 2S/GBTQ people. Over the years, Sex Now data has been used to help inform public policy around 2S/GBTQ health issues, from advocacy around conversion therapy law and the blood ban, to justifying funding for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), to informing local public health strategies and services.

CBRC and its community partners have online social media presences (e.g., on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter). These channels will be leveraged to promote data collection dates and locations to followers in advance of recruitment days. Posts may be boosted to ensure maximum exposure.

Sample E-mail/Newsletter Summary

Dear [name],

We’re excited to let you know that Sex Now 2024: Coming to You is on its way to a Pride festival, bar, or bathhouse near you this summer!

Sex Now is Canada’s largest and longest running survey of Two-Spirit, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer men and non-binary people’s health. Originating at Pride festivals across British Columbia in 2002, Sex Now has been administered both online and in-person at events and has become an essential source of data on the health and well-being of 2S/GBTQ in Canada. The study is community-based (led by 2S/GBTQ community members) and data from the survey have been instrumental in advocating for a ban to conversion therapy practices in Canada and to reform Canada’s blood donation policy for trans people and men who have sex with men.

Sex Now 2024: Coming to You will be conducted in partnership between Community-Based Research Centre, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and local community organizations across the country. Participants will be asked to complete an electronic survey on a tablet or their own device, which will ask questions related to their sex life, substance use, mental health, service access and more. Participants will also have the option of providing a small blood sample via finger prick to screen for HIV, hepatitis C, syphilis, and hepatitis B as part of the study and will be provided with $10 cash as a thank you for their time.
