As 2S/LGBTQ+ people, we often face stigma and discrimination about the ways we love, have sex, and express our gender. Our experiences in healthcare are no exception. Particularly when it comes to sexual and reproductive health (SRH), we face added challenges, like barriers to accessing services, care that doesn’t suit our needs, and pressures to explain who we are to people that don’t understand. Accessing support for SRH can sometimes feel like an uphill battle.
So how can we respond? Below are actions to consider when it feels like the health system isn’t working for you:
- Advocate for yourself
- Practice self-compassion
- Lean on others in the community
- Take steps to look after your own SRH
