Two-Spirit Celebration and Awareness Day Social Media Toolkit

Following advocacy from members of the Two-Spirit community in 2022, the city of Vancouver recognized an official Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day aligned with the spring equinox. Since then, Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day continues to be held on the spring equinox each year, recognizing and celebrating the radiance and diversity of Two-Spirit identities, expression and experience across Turtle Island.

The intention of this day is to honour the Two-Spirit trailblazers that came before us and continue the resurgence of Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ folks through celebrations, gatherings, and demonstrations. We are returning to the roles and spaces we have always had as Indigenous people.

This year, we’re issuing a call to action: Join us in the proclamation and celebration of Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ Celebration and Awareness Day – taking place this year on Monday, March 20, 2023 – in alignment with the spring equinox!

And if you are in what is colonially known as Vancouver, will be hosting a “Bannock and Tea” event on Monday, March 20, from 2 pm to 7 pm PT, at Junction (1138 Davie St.). It will be an opportunity for discussion, expression, and celebration amongst our Two-Spirit relatives that will hopefully be the start of similar gatherings across the country. Everyone is welcome.

We have created a number of promotional resources for you to use to share your own events and initiatives, which you can access and download below.
