To celebrate its 25th anniversary, CBRC has produced a short documentary reflecting on the organization’s early days and its growth over the last two and a half decades to become a leading national 2S/LGBTQIA+ health research organization in Canada.
The film takes us back to our humble beginnings in 1999, when founders Rick Marchand and Terry Trussler took action in response to the lack of information, research, and funding on how HIV was affecting gay men in BC. Through interviews with more than a dozen people who have been involved in and led the organization, the film traces CBRC’s journey – from its first Sex Now study, to the creation of educational initiatives such as Totally Outright and Investigaytors – all while highlighting the impact of community-based research and the organization’s ongoing projects and achievements.

Feeling inspired? Want to help support CBRC for the next 25 years?
Funding for organizations that support the health and well-being of queer and trans people is hard to come by, and CBRC operates without stable operational funding. All our resources are tied to time-limited grants and programs at risk of expiring. If the health and wellness of 2S/LGBTQIA+ communities matter to you, please consider donating to help us continue our work.
