Community-Based Research Centre (CBRC) promotes the health of sexual and gender minority populations through research and intervention development. Description
Working under the supervision of the 2SLGBTQQIA+ Chronic Health Research Manager and as part of CBRC’s research team, the Health Research Officer will support CBRC’s 2SLGBTQQIA+ Chronic Health research project through a number of activities focused on advisory work and survey development. Through these activities, the Health Research Officer will develop and deepen skills in communication, teamwork, and leadership. In addition, the Health Research Officer will learn and practice community-based research methods, health equity, anti-racism and anti-oppression, and disability justice.
Job Responsibilities
- Supporting the development and preparation of an online survey, to be launched in 2022
- Supporting administrative tasks related to the project, including compiling documents and resources, preparing minutes from meetings, reviewing future opportunities, etc.
- Participating meaningfully in the Research Team, and within the broader CBRC staff meeting by attending meetings and working in collaboration with others
- Assisting in the development of content to share with CBRC’s communities
- Upholding confidentiality, and working in a way that is aligned with CBRC’s policies
- Working within a 2SLGBTQQIA+ community-based, anti-racist, anti-oppression, disability justice framework
Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications required
- Understanding of health as it relates to 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities (including and especially through lived experience)
- Experience working or volunteering with health, community or social services
- Knowledge of 2SLGBTQQIA+ community-based cultural and political values and sensitivities, including experience working with
- Two-Spirit and Indigenous queer and trans communities, as well as QTBIPOC communities
- Demonstrated anti-racism and anti-oppression analysis and practice
- Facilitation skills (in-person and/or virtual), and interest in virtual knowledge sharing
- Strong interest in self-reflection and continuous learning
- Comfort and familiarity with collaborative work in Google workspace (e.g. using Google Drive)
Assets
- Knowledge of disability justice principles and approaches
- Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative research
- Bilingual (English and French language) skills
