New insights on queer women and femme folks from Sex Now 2025

Sex Now was created in 2002 as a community-led survey on HIV, STBBIs, and sexual health, initially targeted at gay men. Over the years, the survey has undergone multiple evolutions, expanding eligibility.

In 2025, following focused consultations with select CBRC staff and collaborators who are 2S/LGBTQIA+ women and femme folks, new questions were added to Sex Now to reflect the lived experiences of queer and trans women – communities historically underrepresented in sexual health research and previously excluded from Sex Now.

For this year’s Lesbian Visibility Day, CBRC has created the following shareables which highlight some of the preliminary data from CBRC’s 2025 Sex Now survey about how lesbian and queer women in Canada navigate their sex lives.

Among the more than 2,000 participants, a subsample of 338 was analyzed, which included participants who identified their gender as:

  • Woman (n= 299, 88.5% of this subsample)
  • Trans woman (45, 13.3%)
  • Transfeminine (41, 12.1%)
