Description

We are seeking a passionate Two-Spirit Research Coordinator to support CBRC’s multiple new and ongoing Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ research projects. This position will coordinate and support various community-based research activities, including community consultations, qualitative and quantitative studies (protocol development, ethics and regulatory approvals, implementation, data collection, data analysis), working with peer researchers, diverse knowledge mobilization activities (reports, infographics, manuscripts), and grant reporting. They will also be responsible for scheduling meetings and other events, taking notes, and maintaining organized study files. This position will be a core member of the CBRC Two-Spirit Program Team and work closely with the CBRC research team. This position will also work closely with other staff at CBRC, our external affiliate researchers, and our community partner organizations across Canada. A part of this role will include a close relationship with the national Two-Spirit Guidance Committee and other Two-Spirit partners.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Approximate percentages of time spent on each activity (averaged over 1 month) are provided as an estimate only, but this may develop over time.

  • Coordinate research activities (e.g., consultations, in-person data collection), research outputs (e.g., reports), and meetings (e.g., scheduling and note taking), ensuring adherence to project timelines (45%)
  • Support necessary grant and project reporting (15%)
  • Conduct literature reviews related to Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ health (15%)
  • Support and/or supervise community advisors and/or peer researchers (15%)
  • Collaborate with CBRC staff and external partners, and participate in team meetings and events (10%)

Minimum Requirements

  • 2-3 years of research coordination experience, ideally in an area related to Two Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ health or other health equity topics
  • 1-2 years of experience applying values of Indigenization, decolonization, equity, social justice, anti-oppression and/or community-based research in community consultation or knowledge mobilization settings
  • Undergraduate degree in Indigenous Studies, Education, Health, Social Sciences, or a related field. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Intermediate knowledge of relevant theories and frameworks in community-based research and population health equity work (e.g., intersectionality, minority stress theory, social ecology, syndemics, social determinants of health)
  • Intermediate knowledge of diverse Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ community health issues and perspectives, including by way of lived experience.
  • Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research (e.g., surveys, statistics, interviews)
  • Awareness of local, provincial and national Indigenous communities, collectives, and organizations

  • Excellent communication skills including writing.

  • Autonomous worker with an ability to adapt and work within a dynamic and complex team setting.
  • Ability to interact courteously and effectively with partners from varying sectors including academic and community agencies.
  • Effective critical analysis and problem-solving skills
